Burntshirt/Hendersonville

Burntshirt Vineyard is located in Hendersonville, NC and they also have a tasting room in Chimney Rock. The winery is managed by a local friend, Cindy, who does an amazing job with the tasting room, greeting guests and wine club. The tasting room is manned by knowledgeable, friendly staff. They also offer a wide variety of wine accessories. The vineyard owners started in the textile business and have a store on the property. Burntshirt is built on mountain lore. The naming of Burntshirt keeps with the mountain lore of when farmers would burn their land to clear for planting, throwing in their shirt for good luck. The very land used for farming vegetable crops is now used to grow grapes. The Oates family began by growing and selling to another winery, but learned just how good their product could be and so they began producing their own estate wines. There are many places to relax or enjoy a picnic. They have an on site food truck on weekends. Rumor has it that a restaurant is under construction at the vineyard. The layout is great for listening to live music without being so loud you can’t hear the conversation. Having been to the tasting room in Chimney Rock we already knew what wines we liked. I am a fan of all their whites, but today I enjoyed the Gruner Veltliner. This venue would be great for small parties to wedding receptions.
