Baker Buffalo Creek Vineyard is a short drive from Morganton to Fallston. Everything about this winery from its owners, Charles and Ann, to the barn used in the Hilshire commercials is inviting. Once you enter the tasting room you feel like you are visiting old friends. Beatrice will give you a sniff, wag her tail and be on her way. She was recognized as a Wine Spectator dog. Charles and I visited this winery on a Saturday afternoon and fell in love with the owners and the wines. Their story is authentic and similar to others in this region in that Surry Community College had a huge impact on their development. The property includes original structures from its dairy farm days. They have a knowledgeable staff and plenty of covered seating to enjoy a picnic lunch. The property has been family owned for generations and is filled with history. Charles led us on a personal tour of the barns, chapel and venue. I liked the Chardonnay. We even bought a wine barrel from them that is the perfect addition to our living room. Baker Buffalo is definitely on our “return to” list.
