Silver Coast Winery

Updated: May 31, 2022

Brunswick County North Carolina is known for its beautiful beaches along the crystal coast. The county’s very first winery is a hidden gem nestled in the pine trees just off Highway 17 in Ocean Isle.

Silver Coast Winery offers great indoor and outdoor spaces to enjoy their European-style wines. Interestingly, Silver Coast sources grapes from the Yadkin River Valley in North Carolina and the mountains of Northern Georgia and Virginia.

They also produce wines using hybrid grapes such as the signature Seyval Blanc and Traminette. All of the wines are dry to semi-dry with some semi-sweet options, aged in traditional oak barrels or stainless tanks. Silver Coast offers full tours of the production facility along with daily wine tastings. Reservations are required, but the staff is extremely flexible to accommodate each guest.

How did Silver Coast Winery come into existence?

“It began with Dr. "Bud" and Maryann Azzato having a passion for wine and desiring to share with their friends and guests. They decided to open a winery and purchased equipment from a winery going out of business in Massachusetts.” The first location was opened in Ocean Isle, then the addition of the Tasting and Taproom in Southport was added. In February of 2020, they opened their 3rd location in Carolina Shores/Calabash, NC.

If you are in the Ocean Isle area make plans to visit Silver Coast Winery. They offer 4 types of tastings which include 4 wines with each tasting. They have a red wine flight, white wine flight, a mixed flight, and one they call the palate pleaser. Christine was extremely knowledgeable in explaining the wines. Kelly and I liked the Seyval Blanc and Charles enjoyed the Cabernet Sauvignon. We also enjoyed a special treat, Mulled Wine made with their Holiday Red.

There is a unique display of arts, crafts, and home decor from an array of local artisans.

Each wine label doubles as an interesting piece of artwork created by local artists.

The Barrel Room has a beautiful indoor waterfall and plenty of room to host your special event or group outing. Contact the Manager/Event Coordinator Susan Barnes for information on booking the room.

Want to try your hand at crafting? Check out one of their monthly craft events. These events are offered at their Ocean Isle location during the day and in the evening at their Carolina Shores/Calabash locations.

Want to expand your culinary skills? Silvery Coast also offers exclusive olive oils and balsamic kinds of vinegar of which they are the only licensed distributor in Brunswick County.

Silver Coast Winery has a pet-friendly outdoor patio. It is a lovely place to share your favorite bottle of wine and enjoy a picnic lunch. If you happen upon the winery without packing your own food, snack trays are available for purchase.

Silver Coast offers a reasonably priced wine club membership with many membership perks. The wine club offers gift shop discounts, discounts on 1/2 case and full cases of wine, and even a free glass of wine depending on the day and which location you choose to visit. Call any of the three locations for more details.

Silver Coast Winery Marker 1 and Silver Coast Winery Tasting and Taproom are both pet-friendly locations. Marker 1 offers indoor and outdoor covered seating and Southport has indoor seating in addition to some outdoor seating.
