Looking for a romantic getaway or a gal pal weekend trip? Rutherford and Polk counties are home to four wineries that are a must-visit. The Tryon area of North Carolina offers some of our favorite wineries. Mountain Brook Vineyards is located minutes from the Tryon International Equestrian Center. The winery allows you to get away from the hustle and bustle of your daily world and enjoy great wine paired not only with good food but great hospitality.
Mountain Brook is a family-owned and operated winery that acquired the property in 2018. The first grapes were planted in 2002 by the former owners. The current owners immediately started transforming the winery into a beautiful event space. From the time you walk onto the property you will be amazed at the beautiful venue and outdoor tasting area. Don’t worry about visiting during colder months. There are plenty of propane heaters, personal fire pits, a cozy fireplace and a massive fire pit that can accommodate large groups. One of my favorite things to do at Mountain Brook is to enjoy a glass of wine, sit by the fire pit and meet new people.
All their tastings are done at the table. Tastings are offered anytime they are open during normal business hours. You do need a reservation for 8 or more. You can taste their award-winning wines at your own pace. If you prefer they do offer a tasting with the winemaker that not only allows you to taste their wines but pairs their wines with food. It is a great learning experience. They offer special events throughout the year such as, galas, movies at the vine, adoption events for dog lovers and dinners. If you are more into the background of the winery you can sign up for the winery tour that takes you throughout the property, through the wine-making process and a first-hand look at the upscale event space. For those looking for that perfect space for wedding, family gatherings or celebrations look no further than Mountain Brook. They can accommodate both large groups and small intimate family gatherings. They have you covered for any occasion.
The Viognier and Sauvignon Blanc are my go-to wines at Mountain Brook. Charles's favorite is the Cabernet Sauvignon. We always bring back a bottle or three.
Mountain Brook is dog friendly and even offers a puppy flight of dog treats. Leashed dogs that are current with their vaccinations and don’t have a history of aggressive behavior are welcome. Please check with them about any special events regarding dog policy.
You are welcome to bring a picnic lunch. They do offer local snacks such as; charcuterie boards, hummus and various cheese spreads. On weekends they have live music and food trucks. The day we visited we enjoyed Arepitas On The Go. I had the Chicken Tostones Rellenos, a cornmeal patty with a chicken mixture on top. Others at our table enjoyed mushroom and spinach arepas and chicken tacos. I suggest getting a couple of dishes to split. To cap off the afternoon we enjoyed their espresso and churros. We followed their suggestion and dipped our churros in the espresso. It was so very good.
Mountain Brook Winery offers a casual space to enjoy great wine for red and white wine drinkers. You will enjoy a casual laid back atmosphere, great hosts, and wine that is extraordinary.
