Linville Falls Winery

Being within an hour of Linville Falls Winery we have visited several times. Located along Highway 105 in Newland, Linville Falls is nestled in the Appalachian High Country. In our opinion this is one of the most scenic wineries in North Carolina. They are a family owned and operated winery headed by Jack Wiseman. Not only does the family grow grapes, but also other fruit and Christmas trees. When visiting new wineries we typically visit no more than 2 wineries a day. At Linville Falls I would suggest planning the whole day. It is a place to slow down and enjoy great wine, food and friends. Whether you bring your own picnic lunch, enjoy a food truck or buy the North Carolina snacks for purchase you will want to “sit a spell”.

During the warmer months Linville Falls has an advantage being in the mountains. It is a little cooler outside and they have lots of room to spread out. Tastings are done on your own on busy days. I would suggest grabbing a table first then getting in line to order. They have covered patio sitting and a large indoor hall. On warm days the doors are open and a nice breeze comes through the room. You are inside but able to hear the music and get an alfresco dining feel.

Linville Falls is open daily for tasting flights, glass and bottle sales. Weather permitting, you need to arrive early to get a covered outdoor spot. There is ample room to bring a blanket and find a shady spot by the pond. Leashed dogs are welcome. They also offer live music. For food trucks and live music schedules check out their website. Their wines are sure to please all palates. I enjoy the Cascade, Riesling, and stainless steel Chardonnay. Charles favors their Brandy Barrel Aged Cabernet Sauvignon. On our last visit we got a late start and had lunch at home. However, Lobster Dogs food truck was on the property and we couldn’t resist purchasing a snack. Euphoria was playing classic tunes. One thing that Linville Falls does well is the physical placement of the music. It’s not so loud you can’t have a conversation even if sitting close.

The winery is named the famous Linville Falls and offers a map of the two trailheads you can access to get there from the winery. It is the perfect location to enjoy a short hike to Linville Falls and then enjoy a glass of wine. Linville Falls has several annual events. Coming up this month is their barn square dance. For the holiday season it turns into the perfect place to pick out your Christmas tree and a bottle to take home. The tasting room has local cheeses and crackers. They also have a collection of local artisan crafts for sale from charcuterie boards, candles, and kitchen accessories.
